Fräulein Julie the Musical

Fräulein Julie – an introduction

It’s midsummer night. miss Julie is dancing like a mad woman with the peasants at a party nearby and on the stove an evil smelling decoction is being prepared for the abortion of a dogs bastard puppies soon to be performed.

It’s so typically Swedish.

The peasant woman Kristin is moving around in the kitchen, but according to the writer’s foreword she is only present as an illustration, so we just drew a picture of her on the floor. We told the actors not to step on her more than necessary. The chalk dust may irritate somebody’s respiratory tract .

The peasant man with ambitions, here called Jean, comes in, bewildered, having had the opportunity to touch class in a passionate folklorish dance style that leaves one out of breath and temporarily cross eyed.

It’s so typically Swedish.
