Siegfried – The very Wagner Hero Hour

Lindy Larsson as The superhero seeking his way among full and half gods.

This is the sequel to Charlotte Engelkes’ solo show and worldwide success Miss Very Wagner. Back then it was the heroines of Wagner’s operas that were under scrutiny.

Now it’s the men’s’ turn.

In a specially made solo, the outstanding actor, singer and dancer Lindy Larsson performs the hero seeking his way among full and half gods, tight blood ties, self-pitying dragons, extinct birds and women who sleep in fire.

The work examines heroism, as well as the feeling of growing up a stranger in one’s own home. Sound designer Willi Bopp, in collaboration with the co-creators, compiles a soundtrack of the best of Wagner’s music, interspersed with completely new material.

This is captivating performance art and opera at its best filtered through Charlotte Engelkes’ highly original imagination. Even if the audience finds it entertaining, the idea is not to parody Wagner, who has a reputation of being pompous. Instead, Engelkes rather strives to study the sensitivity, darkness and longing in his work.

Premiere at Dansens Hus Stockholm 2011, performed at the Swedish Royal Opera, Kulturhuset Ytterjärna and Singapore Arts festival.
